Philosophy of Education

When I was little everyone would ask me what I wanted to be, my response would always be I want to be a teacher. As I grew up and went onto high school and started to think about what I really wanted to be, it occurred to me that it was still my dream to teach. My Sophomore year in high school was when it really hit me. My mom died in summer of 2011 and shortly after that I would have to start sophomore year in a new school and she wouldn’t be there to help me. I was about to endure one of the hardest years of my life and without the help from two of my teachers I don’t think I would have made it. Ms. Young was my math teacher and that women could easily brighten the saddest persons’ day. She was not just your regular math teacher, she made the learning environment fun and made her students feel comfortable and made us feel like we could truly trust her. Ms. Young went out of her way to get to know me and she always made sure that I was doing okay. Not only was she a good friend, she was a great teacher. Math isn’t an easy subject for some people, including me, but Ms. Young would stay late after school to make sure students who needed help were getting it. She was always the first one to get there in the morning as well. There isn’t a teacher who has touched my life the way Ms. Young has.
